Book summary
The novel follows Lucien Alexandre Morel, the French-born son of Robbie MacKail and Madeleine Morel, from his concealed beginnings in France into the divided world of An Scáth Dorcha.
Denied the MacKail surname yet shaped by Robbie’s ambition, Lucien investigates the shadow organisation his father has come to dominate. As rival factions gather around Donal O’Reilly, Patrick Ahern and Robbie’s own loyal men, Lucien is drawn towards Killiecrankie Farm, where blood, secrecy and revenge converge. The novel explores illegitimacy, inheritance, moral compromise and the peril of longing for a name that may carry more darkness than honour.
